Carterton gymnast secures place in US final

 

 

Amie Cooper, represented Carterton Gymnastics Club at the United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs World Championship (USAIGC) in Orlando, Florida last week qualifying for a place in the finals for her floor routine.

 

As a first time international competitor Amie was over the moon to be placed joint third in the age 13 junior category with a score of 9.45 out of 10 and go on to achieve overall eighth position in the final.

 

Debra Courtenay-Crane, head coach at Carterton, who accompanied Amie to the US said 'We are extremely proud of what Amie has achieved, she put in a solid performance on bars, vault and beam, but excelled with her floor routine, whilst coping with the pressure of a world championship'.

 

Amie, who came back to the UK with a finalist's medal said 'I didn't expect to make it through to a final round as the competition was so high, but Debra kept me focussed.  The whole competition was a fantastic experience and it was amazing to meet gymnasts from the US, Bermuda, Canada and South Africa and learn about their approach to the sport'. When asked what the future holds Amie said 'i just want to keep progressing and working with Debra to learn more and improve my technique and see where that takes me'.

Basingstoke, Sunday 5th June

 

 

SIX Veterans from Carterton Gymnastics Club competed at Basingstoke on Sunday 5th June.  In the over 30's Angela Oliver came 3rd her best piece being on beam scoring 11.7 also taking 2nd place in tumbling. Angela Bywaters came 4th her best piece being on floor scoring 10.7. She took 1st place in tumbling. In the over 40's Angela Money came 3rd her best piece being on beam scoring 10.1 and came 3rd in tumbling. Claire Granville came 2nd in this category her best piece being on vault scoring 12.85 and came 1st in tumbling. Colin Rigby did six pieces of apparatus his best piece being on vault. He came first scoring 72.2 and 1st in tumbling. Kate Dela competed in the over 30's professional level on 4 pieces coming 1st scoring 38.4 her best piece being on bars.

Southern Regional Grades Finals Competition, Portsmouth, Sunday 24th April

 

 

Eabha Morris age 11 from Carterton Gymnastics Club, Carterton, Oxfordshire,  competed in the Southern Regional Grades Finals competition in Portsmouth on Sunday 24th April.  She competed in a tough competition against Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire on bars, beam, vault and floor presenting a beautiful floor routine and coming 4th on beam making her 9th overall in the competition. A very good day for Eabha.

UK Gymnastics Competition in Milton-Keynes

 

 

Amie Cooper competed in a UK Gymnastics Competition in Milton Keynes and came 4th overall. This was her first competition with Carterton Club. Amie competed on vault bars beam and floor. She performed an impressive floor and bar routine placing 4th on both these pieces. Amie is training hard in preparation for the World Championships in Orlando in June 2016

British Veterans Gymnastics Championships, Lilleshall National Sports Centre, Sunday 29th November

 

 

THREE girls from Carterton Gym Club, took part in the Oxfordshire Grades Competition on Sunday 13th March 2013. They all competed on bars, beam vault and floor.  Evie Daft aged 11 received a commendation and took second place overall in Level 3.  Eabha Morris received a distinction and took third place overall in Level 4 while sister her Roisin Morris took fourth place overall in Level 5 also receiving a distinction.  Evie and Eabha are now through to compete in the Southern Regional finals.

British Veterans Gymnastics Championships, Lilleshall National Sports Centre, Sunday 29th November

 

 

Carterton Gymnastics Club Adult Squad took part in the British Veterans Gymnastics Championships at Lilleshall National Sports Centre on Sunday 29th November.  It was a successful weekend for the 9 gymnasts that entered. Colin Rigby secured two national titles in the adult over 50 tumbling and over 50 men's artistic gymnastics events. Kate Dela won the British title for over 30 pro women's artistic gymnastics. Marjorie Scholes became British champion for the over 60's women artistic gymnastics at the age of 76. The rest of the team - Maddy Crossley competing in the over 18 intermediate category performed very well on bars, Angela Bywater and Angela Oliver performed best on the beam in the over 30's novice event, with Stacey Clack performing her best routine on floor in the same category. Claire Granville and Angela Money performed in the over 40's novice women's category where they performed best on the floor apparatus. The event was hosted by former British gymnast Steve Frew and current world team silver medalist Kristian Thomas. The team were able to take part in the event thanks to the sponsorship provided by ABC Oxford, their coach being Debra Courtenay-Crane.

Oxfordshire Two Piece Competition, Berinsfield, Sunday 22nd November

 

 

Seven girls from Carterton Gymnastic Club, Upavon Way, Carterton competed at the Oxfordshire Two Piece Competition in Berinsfield on Sunday 22nd November 2015.  Lilli Thompson competed on vault and floor, Roisin Morris and Evie Daft competed on beam and floor, and all three competed at level 5.  Evie took home a silver on floor.  At level 4, Eabha Morris and Isabel Norris both completed.  Eabha did beam and floor and took home a bronze on beam while Isabel completed on vault and beam and took home a bronze on vault.  Natasha Granville and Ella Mead both competed at level 3 on beam and floor. Natasha took bronze on beam and silver on floor together with beam plate while Ella took home a bronze on floor and silver on beam.  A very good competition all round for Carterton Gym Club.

Southern Region Competition, Portsmouth, Saturday 17th October

 

 

Natasha Granville aged 13 of Carterton Gymnastics Club took part in the Southern Region Competition in Portsmouth on 17th October 2015. She took part on all four pieces: vault, bars beam and floor, her best piece being on vault with a score of 12.15. Natasha scored 45.75 in total and came 6th overall.

The 2015 Club Championships, held on Saturday July 4th, were a great success, with the day culminating in a special performance by the squad and choreographed by Miss Ford, to celebrate Debbie's 50th.

Oxfordshire County Levels competition, Berinsfield, Sunday 28th June 2015

 

 

NINE girls from Carterton Gymnastics Club competed at the Oxfordshire County Levels competition at Berinsfield on Sunday 28th June 2015. They all competed on vault, bars, beam and floor. Roisin Morris and Evie Daft both competed at L5OOA Junior. Roisin's best piece was on floor while Evie took silver on vault and bronze on beam. Ella Mead, Molly Mullins and Natasha Granville competed at L3OOA Senior. Ella took joint gold on vault with Natasha who also got gold on beam and floor and gold overall.  Molly's best piece being on vault. At L4OOA Junior Isabel Norris, Eabha Morris and Amelie Meaden competed.  Isabel took silver on bars. Eabha's best piece was on vault and Amelie's best piece was on floor. Georgia Bishop competed at L4OOA Senior and took home a silver on bars. A good day all round for Carterton.

Carterton Veteran Gymnasts, Basingstoke, Sunday 7th June

 

 

EIGHT Veteran Gymnasts from Carterton Gymnastic Club competed at Basingstoke on Sunday 7th June. each completed in different categories for their age group all completing on beam, floor, vault and bars.  Maddy Crossley aged 23 came 3rd overall her best piece being on beam. Georgina Money aged 20 came 4th overall her best piece being on floor. Angela Oliver aged 36 came 4th overall and gained silver on tumble.  Angela Bywater aged 38 came 2nd overall came 2nd overall and took gained gold on tumble.  Angela Money aged 48 came 4th overall and gained bronze on tumble.  Claire Granville aged 42 came 3rd overall and gained bronze on tumble.  Kate Dela aged 32 came 1st her best piece being on beam and Colin Rigby aged 54 came 2nd overall and gained gold in tumble.

A double celebration for Carterton Gymnastics Club!

 

 

We're honoured to have received the Club of the Year Award from West Oxfordshire District Council at the Sports Awards evening at Witney Lakes Resort on Thursday last week.

 

A second Award for the Club  followed with Head Coach Debra Courtenay-Crane receiving Coach of the Year.  A few of the club committee members along with Debra Courtenay-Crane attended the Sports Awards Evening on Thursday on behalf of a superb team of volunteers at the Club and are very proud to have received the two awards.

Oxfordshire Grades Competition, Berinsfield,
Sunday 22nd February

 

 

EIGHT girls from Carterton Gymnastics Club, Upavon Way, Carterton took part in the Oxfordshire Grades Competition at Berinsfield on Sunday 22nd February. They all competed on vault, bars beam and floor.  Molly Mullins aged 14 got a distinction and took home a Bronze at grade 1. Ella Mead aged 15 and Natasha Granville aged 12 also took grade 1, Mead coming 4th and Granville 5th and both had commendations.  Roisin Morris aged 8 took grade 6.  Eabha Morris and Isabel Norris both aged 10 took grade 5. Eabha took home a bronze.  Amelie Meaden aged 10 took grade 4 taking home gold while Evie Daft aged 10 also at grade 4 took home a silver.  All girls got commendation.

British Championships 2014, Lilleshall National Sports Centre

 

 

EIGHT members of Carterton Gymnastic Veterans Club competed at the British Championships 2014 at Lilleshall National Sports Centre at the weekend.  This is the first competition the team have entered having only been formed as a team since January this year.  Most of the team only started gymnastics then and some having been out of the sport for many years.  They have been sponsored by ABC Oxford Limited.

 

Professionals Kate Dela, Georgina Money and Laura Trafford competed.  Dela came 2nd overall in the over 30's.  Money and Trafford both completed in the over 18's, Money coming 9th overall and Trafford 7th overall and 4th in tumbling.

 

Novice gymnasts include Colin Rigby who entered in the over 50's coming 2nd overall and 1st in tumbling, Angela Money entered in the over 40's coming 6th overall and 6th in tumbling. Claire Granville also in the over 40's came 4th overall and 4th in tumbling.  Angela Oliver and Angela Bywater both entered the over 30's, Oliver coming 7th overall and 3rd in tumbling and Bywater 6th overall and 9th in tumbling.

 

The team enjoyed every minute and worked extremely hard with their coach Debra Courtenay-Crane.

South Region Voluntary Levels Competition, Sunday 4th and 5th October 2014 at Milton Keynes

 

 

FOUR girls from Carterton Gym Club entered the South Region Voluntary Levels  in and out of age gymnastics competition on Sunday 4th and 5th October 2014 at Milton Keynes.  All four competed on bars, beam, vault and floor at different levels.  Evie Daft aged 9 competed at level 5 OOA and her best piece was on bars with 11.40.  Natasha Granville aged 12 and Georgia Bishop aged 13 both competed at level 4 OOA.  Granville took home a silver medal on vault with a score of 11.70. Bishop's best piece was on floor scoring 10.80. Ella Mead aged 15 competed at level 3 OOA.  Mead took home gold on bars with 11.20, bronze on vault scoring 11.50 and bronze on beam scoring 8.30 taking home bronze overall.  All four girls did well as it was a hard competition with some great gymnastics demonstrated by all.

Oxfordshire County Levels Competition at Berinsfield,

EIGHT girls from Carterton Gymnastics Club of Upavon Way, Carterton competed at the Oxfordshire County Levels Competition at Berinsfield on Sunday 29th June 2014.  All competed on vault, floor, bars and beam.

 

Ella Mead aged 14 competed at Level 3 OOA and took home a Bronze on beam. Molly Mullins age 13, Georgia Bishop age 12 and Natasha Granville age 11 all competed at Level 4 OOA. Mullins took Gold on vault and bars, Bishop took Gold on floor while Granville took Silver on both vault and beam and Bronze on bars coming second overall.  Eabha Morris age 10, Evie Daft and Isabel Norris both aged 9 competed at Level 5 OOA.  Daft took home a Gold on both vault and Bars while taking a Silver on floor. Best piece by Eabha and Isabel was on floor. Roisin Morris age 8 competed at Level 4 IA and took home Gold on vault, bars, beam and floor coming first overall.  All eight girls worked hard and had a great day, it being the first competition for three of them, coached by Debra Courtenay-Crane and Colin Rigby.

Veterans over 30's Artistic Advanced Gymnastics Competition Basingstoke, Sunday 8th June 2014

 

 

KATE Dela from Carterton Gymnastics Club, Upavon Way, Carterton competed at the Veterans over 30's Artistic Advanced Gymnastics Competition at Basingstoke on Sunday 8th June 2014.

 

It was an amazing day for Kate.  She competed on vault, bars, floor and beam.  Her best score was on beam with 13.80.  Her overall score was 39.80 and she took home a Gold medal.

Southern Region Grades Competition at Basingstoke

Sunday 13th April 2014

 

 

THREE girls from Carterton Gymnastics Club, Upavon Way, Carterton took part in the Southern Region Grades Competition at Basingstoke on Sunday 13th April 2014.  All three girls competed on vault, floor, bars and beam.  Evie Daft  aged 9 entered at grade 13 and her best piece of the day was on on vault scoring 12.30. Natasha Granville aged 11 entered at grade 10 and her best piece of the day was also on vault scoring 12.10. Ella Mead aged 14 entered at grade 9.  Her best piece of the day was on vault scoring 11.90 and she took home a bronze medal overall.

Oxfordshire Grades Gymnastics Competition, Abingdon, March 16th, 2014

 

 

FOUR girls from Carterton Gym Club, Upavon Way, Carterton, all competed at the Oxfordshire Grades Gymnastics Competition at Berinsfield on Sunday 16th March 2014.  All four passed their Grades getting through to the Southern Region competition in May, and all came home with Gold medals.  The youngest Evie Daft aged 9 took her grade 13, Amelie Meaden aged 9 took her grade 12 while Natasha Granville aged 11 took 10 and Ella Mead being the eldest at 14 took her grade 9.  They all took part on four pieces of apparatus being vault, bars, beam and floor and were coached there by Debra Courtenay-Crane.

Oxfordshire Two piece Competition, November 17th

 

 

Four girls from Carterton Gym Club who train at Carterton Community College Upavon Way competed at the Oxfordshire Two piece Competition on 17th November at Berinsfield,all doing beam and floor. Evie Daft competed at level 5IA and took home a gold on beam and bronze on floor. Natasha Granville competed at level 4OOA junior and took home a gold on beam. Georgia Bishop competed at level 4OOA senior taking a bronze on floor. Ella Mead took home a silver on beam and bronze on floor at level 3OOA senior.

South Region Levels Championships 2013, September 21st/22nd

 

 

Three girls from Carterton Gymnastics Club, Upavon Way, Carterton got through to the South Region Levels Championships 2013 and competed at Rivermead Leisure Complex in Reading on 21st and 22nd September. All three girls competed on vault, bars, beam and floor in a very tough competition. Evie Daft aged 8 competed at level 5. Her best piece of the day was on floor.  Georgia Bishop aged 12 competed at level 4 with her best piece being on bars. Ella Mead competed at level 3.  Mead walked away with a gold medal on both beam and vault, taking home also a bronze medal overall.  All three girls did their best and their coach Debra Courtenay-Crane was very proud of them all.

Four girls from Carterton Gymnastic Club took part in the Oxfordshire County In and Out of Age Levels Gymnastics Competition on Sunday 30th June 2013 at Abingdon Gymastics Club.  All four girls did vault, bars, beam and floor.  Evie Daft competed at level 5IA.  Her best piece was on floor scoring 11.05.  Her total score was 41.65 and she took home a bronze on floor. Amelie Meaden competed at level 5OA. Her best piece was also on floor scoring 11.45, total score being 41.85. Georgia Bishop completed at level 4OA and took home bronze on floor. Ella Mead competed at 3OA.  Her best piece was on vault scoring 12.20. Her total score was 41.70.  She took home gold on beam and bronze overall.

As you were all aware, we were nominated and short-listed for the prestigious award, of West Oxfordshire Sports Club of the Year 2013, and tonight, Thursday 23rd May, it was announced that we won! Congratulations to all involved in making this a truly wonderful club!

Awards for West Oxfordshire’s sporting stars

 

Budding sports stars and inspirational club staff were honoured at the annual West Oxfordshire Sports Awards on 23.05.13.

 

The ceremony, held at Witney Lakes Resort, acknowledged the District’s talented athletes as well as the valuable work carried out by the sports clubs, coaches and unsung heroes.

 

West Oxfordshire District Council runs the awards in partnership with GLL Sports Foundation. Richard Langridge, Cabinet Member responsible for leisure was full of praise for the winners. He said: “This is one of my favourite events of the year as it a chance to celebrate the passion, achievement, dedication and commitment of the talent we have in West Oxfordshire".

 

Sports Club of the Year

 

Carterton Gymnastics Club was crowned Sports Club of the Year in recognition of its achievements and links with the local community.

 

The Club provides coaching for all ages and has 100 children participating at all levels. Last year they coached an elite squad to county and regional level and coached a veteran gymnast to national level, achieving second place in the GB veteran competition

 

The club shares facilities with the local community college, providing an excellent model of sporting opportunities for the students and actively encourage students participating in GCSE, A level and Duke of Edinburgh.

This is why the Club is such a success. I have 12 volunteer coaches helping me and I couldn’t do it without them."

 

Veterans Competition, BasingstokeSunday 9th June 2013

 

 

Kate Dela from Carterton Gymnastics Club, took part in the Veterans Competition in Basingstoke on Sunday 9th June 2013. It was a very tough competition for Dela as she was the youngest in her group.

 

Kate competed on vault, bars, beam and floor. Her highest score was on beam with 13.20. Her total score was 37.55 which was made up of her three highest scores. She had a good competition and was very pleased to take 1st place overall in the over 30's category. Kate is now working hard for the British Championship Competition in November at Newcastle.

Oxfordshire Gymnastics

Grades 14 – 9 Competition 2013

 

 

Carterton Gymnastics Club, Carterton, Oxfordshire took part in the Oxfordshire Club Grades at Berinsfield Gymnastics Club, Oxfordshire on Sunday 17th March 2013.

 

Evie Daft competed at level 14 and took home a Silver medal scoring 59.05. Her best piece of the day was on vault.

 

Amelie Meaden competed at level 13. She took home a Gold medal scoring 58.10. Her best piece was also on vault.

 

Natasha Granville competed at level 11 taking home a Gold medal  scoring 47.45. Her best piece was also on vault.

 

Georgia Bishop and Ella Mead both competed at level 10. Mead took Gold scoring 43.10 and Bishop took home silver with a score of 41.20.  Their best pieces also were on vault.

 

All girls were pleased with their performances on the day coached by Colin Rigby and Sarah Edmonds.

Oxfordshire Gymnastics Grades 14 – 9 Competition 2012

 

 

Four girls from Carterton Gymnastic Club took part in the Oxfordshire Gymnastics Grades 14–9 Competition at Kingston Gymnastics Club, Milton Keynes on Sunday 25th March 2012.

 

Amelie Meaden aged 7 took a Gold medal scoring 62.40 at level 14, her best piece being range and conditioning.

 

Niamh Herbert, aged 9 also took a Gold at level 13 scoring 56.55. Her best piece was on vault.

 

They both competed on vault bars, beam, floor and range and conditioning and this was their first competition.

 

Natasha Granville aged 9 and Georgia Bishop aged 10 both competed on vault, bars, beam and floor. Natasha competed at level 12 and scored 40.25 with her best piece being on vault.

 

Georgia competed at level 11 and took home a Silver medal with a score of 44.70 her best piece also being on vault.
